Rikkyo School in England is a Japanese boarding school set in 100 acres of West Sussex countryside, a short journey from London.
For families who want their child to keep a strong Japanese education while gaining a genuine British experience, we offer a rare thing: the Japanese national curriculum alongside everyday life in Britain. With around 200 pupils aged 10 to 18, ours is a close, family-style community where every child is known, supported and encouraged to thrive.
Until now, boarding with us has meant staying for the full term. Our new weekly boarding option gives UK-based Japanese families a gentler, more flexible choice: your child boards Monday to Friday and comes home at the weekend, settled and happy in the week, and close to you when it matters most.

We would welcome the chance to show you around and talk through your child’s journey at Rikkyo. Share a few details and our admissions team will be in touch to arrange a private tour.
Weekly boarding is a reassuring middle ground for families who are new to the idea. Your child builds independence and friendships through the school week, with all the structure and care of boarding life, then comes home to you at the weekend.
It is a gentle way to begin, with the option of full boarding whenever your family feels ready.
At Rikkyo, pupils follow the Japanese national curriculum alongside a genuine British education. They keep their Japanese at a high level while their English flourishes, growing up confident and capable in two languages and two cultures.
Our pupils have exceeded English proficiency benchmarks, our teachers are recognised as subject experts, and our work was recognised in a successful ISI inspection in 2025. With an assured places scheme at Rikkyo University and pathways to leading universities in Japan, the UK and beyond, your child’s future stays open.
Our boarding houses are run by experienced houseparents who know every child by name, supported by Matrons and an on-site Health Centre. The boys’ and girls’ houses have been newly renovated, with a new Sixth Form Boys’ House opening in 2026.
Set on a secure rural campus, Rikkyo is a place where children feel safe, settled and genuinely cared for, with strong wellbeing support at the heart of everything we do.
There is far more to Rikkyo than lessons. Our varied programme spans sport, clubs and life skills, helping every child build confidence and discover new passions.
From horse riding and golf to swimming, adventure sports and skiing, our Friday activities give pupils the chance to try something new.
Trips to London and the West End theatres bring British culture to life and broaden every pupil’s horizons.
A broad range of sports, clubs and life-skills activities runs throughout the week, alongside academic study.
Rikkyo sits within easy reach of London, major UK airports and mainline train stations. Our private school drivers help pupils travel to and from school with ease, an added reassurance for weekly boarding families across West London, Reading, Surrey and beyond.
A Rikkyo education is an investment in your child’s future, and our fees include far more than the classroom: boarding, meals, pastoral care, and a rich programme of activities and experiences.
